Cherokee, North Carolina

Nestled in between the Blue Ridge Parkway, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and the Oconaluftee River, the Cherokee Central Schools Building Program is expected to be the largest LEED certified school project in the region. This 17-building, 475,000-square-foot K-12 school complex will serve more than 1,200 students from the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. The entire school will be heated and cooled using a geothermal heat pump system. This closed-loop system is supported by 290 wells, each 6" in diameter and 450' deep.
