The BE&K Building Group was responsible for design
and construction of this 400,000 sf warehouse/distribution
center for the largest food distributor in North America.
The facility features a structural steel frame on shallow
foundations, an extensive refrigeration system serving
cold storage areas with temperatures ranging from -20°F
to 55°F, more than 100,000 sf of
dry goods storage, a high-tech computer room, and 50,000
sf of high-end office space. The scope of work also
included an on-site truck maintenance facility with
fuel dispensing equipment and a guardhouse. The facility
includes space for ice cream storage, an isolated automated
rack system, a battery charging area, and an explosion-resistant
equipment room. Our team self-performed a portion of
the work and managed all phases of design and construction.
SYSCO's new regional distribution and warehouse
facility houses 25' high stacks of supplies such
as fresh produce, frozen foods and paper products, and
have a “total installed cost” of $55 million.
The facility serves most of North Carolina east of Greensboro,
as well as South Carolina north of Myrtle Beach.
Concurrent with completing this project, the BE&K
Building Group was awarded a construction assignment
from SYSCO Food Services of Columbia, South Carolina.
The South Carolina project, located in Columbia, consists
of a multifaceted addition to an existing food distribution
center designed and constructed by our firm (completed
in 2002). Our firm completed a similar design-build
assignment for SYSCO in 2001 — a 300,000 sf distribution
facility in Suffolk, Virginia. |
