The true overall success of any company's safety program comes from a group of people committed to a common goal — a safe working environment. Our firm's outstanding safety record can be attributed to our team members maintaining a safety mindset throughout every phase of a building program.
The BE&K Building Group embraces the “core value” approach to safety. Safety is integral to our firm's core value, “Respect,” defined by the BE&K Building Group as, Actions that demonstrate genuine care and concern for individuals and that create and maintain a safe and healthy work environment. Furthermore, our firm has designated safety as a Key Measurement critical to the success of our business. Our commitment to — and our passion for — safety starts with upper management and extends through all levels of our organization, including new hires.
One of the essential elements — and deemed a best practice — of the BE&K Building Group safety program is the job hazard analysis (JHA). The JHA is the key to pretask planning and is a major contributing factor in enabling employees to safely perform and complete the assigned task with the minimal amount of risk.
In response to the increased number of Spanish-speaking team members, we have taken steps to ensure that key policies — written and verbal — are available in Spanish. The entire safety orientation process has been translated into Spanish. Also, we ask that each subcontractor provide one employee on site who has the ability to communicate quickly with the Spanish-speaking team members in the event of an emergency. All signs and notifications are posted in both English and Spanish.
