Raleigh Employees Raise $2,000 for Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure

Idlewild Elementary Students Enjoy Visit from BE&K Building Group Volunteers on Earth Day

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools selected the BE&K Building Group to provide construction services for a phased addition and renovation project at Idlewild Elementary School in Charlotte. When the project is finished this fall, the school will have a new gym, cafeteria and more classrooms.

Serving the Community: Greenville Employees Build Wheelchair Ramps for Area Residents

The BE&K Building Group is known for giving back to the communities in which it operates. Our colleagues in Greenville have validated this reputation through a series of initiatives in recent months. Working through "Hands on Greenville," a local non-profit community service organization, Kenny Anderson, senior project manager, and Mitzi Scarborough, office manager/marketing coordinator, identified several volunteer opportunities where Greenville employees could leverage their expertise and demonstrate their passion for construction to benefit some needy neighbors.

Raleigh's Dave Rouse Pedals for a Purpose in Bike MS Two-Day Event

Dave Rouse, group safety manager for the BE&K Building Group's North Carolina operations, joined nearly 2,000 cyclists for the 20th Annual Bike MS in New Bern, North Carolina. The fund-raising effort involved two days of hard, fast cycling, covering approximately 200 miles in heat exceeding 90 degrees. Rouse's team, Team Nortel, was comprised of cyclists from all experience levels.

Raleigh Employees Show Compassion for Firefighters on 9/11 Anniversary

On Tuesday, September 9, one of the Raleigh-Durham area's local firefighters, Eric Rozier, was critically injured in a training exercise on Jordan Lake. He sustained serious head injuries in the accident and was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) at the UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

For the fifth consecutive summer, the BE&K Building Group's Greenville office participated in the United Way of Greenville County's School Tools program originated to help needy children get ready to go back to school.

Charlotte Employees Help Teen Students Build Habitat Homes

The BE&K Building Group’s Charlotte office teamed with the Olympic Community of Schools during the 2007-2008 school year to build a house for a local needy family through Habitat for Humanity. The Olympic Community of Schools, which receives funding from the Bill Gates Foundation, is part of Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) – a longtime client of the BE&K Building Group.

Washington Employees Participate in the Susan G. Komen National Race for the Cure

Six BE&K Building Group employees lent their feet to a very important cause this past summer by running in the Susan G. Komen 5K National Race for the Cure in Washington, D.C. The festivities, held on the National Mall, began with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. This annual event's proceeds go to support breast cancer research, education and treatment.

Fundraiser Luncheon Hosted by Raleigh Office Benefits Wake County’s Habitat for Humanity

The BE&K Building Group’s Raleigh office hosted a fundraising event in May to benefit Habitat for Humanity of Wake County. Barbeque plate lunches were presold to area businesses, friends, subcontractors and local BE&K Building Group jobsite crews. Chicken and hush puppies were cooked on site and plated along with chopped pork, coleslaw and potato salad for people to enjoy under tents or for curbside pick-up.

Greenville Employees Participate in Six-Mile March for Babies to Help Prevent Birth Defects

On a pleasant Saturday morning in late April, BE&K Building Group-Greenville employees proved that “every step counts” in giving back to their community. Team members participated in the six-mile March for Babies walk, formerly known as WalkAmerica. This signature annual event supports the March of Dimes’ mission to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.

Motivated by the $10,000 they raised by joining “Team Burnham for Medical Research” in the 13.1-mile Walt Disney World Half Marathon last winter, employees in our Orlando office continue to serve the community while getting fit.

Food for Others Program Helps Families in Need Near Washington, D.C.

This past spring, Washington office employees once again lent a helping hand to Food for Others, a community food bank serving the Northern Virginia area. The effort was organized by Gayle Lorenz, project controls manager for the BE&K Building Group’s biotech manufacturing project for CEL-SCI Corporation in Elkridge, Maryland.

Greenville Employees Surpass United Way Campaign Goal

The Greenville office kicked off its 2007 United Way campaign with an aggressive goal of raising $15,500 to help the United Way of Greenville County fund many organizations that serve a wide variety of local community needs. A committee of eight BE&K Building Group employees embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, using the only tools available — teamwork and creative thinking. The bottom-line result: Greenville office employees donated a record-breaking $20,283 — a 31% increase over the initial goal!

Greer Memorial Hospital Team Helps Greenville Schools "Share the Warmth"

The BE&K Building Group project team for the Greer Memorial Hospital Replacement Facility and Central Energy Plant in Greer, South Carolina, enthusiastically participated in a "Share the Warmth" community program coordinated by Greenville County Schools' social work services department in January. Our team members generously donated an assortment of warm and colorful hats, gloves, scarves, socks and pants that were distributed to needy schoolchildren to help them through the coldest time of year.
