A Communication to BE&K Building Group Employees
from Luther Cochrane, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
December 28, 2009
More to be proud of on the project recognition front! The BE&K Building Group was a big winner at the ABC of the Carolinas Excellence in Construction (EIC) Awards evening celebration held in late November in Greensboro, North Carolina. First and foremost, Greenville’s Cherokee Central Schools K-12 Building Program won Project of the Year! More than 60 enthusiastic Building Group employees (and client guests) stood up and cheered when this “surprise” announcement was made! The Project of the Year win followed the Building Group being presented with 5 Eagle Awards and 2 Awards of Merit. What a spectacular night for our people and our clients! Be sure to congratulate your colleagues for a job well done! Following are details about each of the awards received.
PROJECT OF THE YEAR — Cherokee Central Schools Building Program — Singled out as ABC’s Project of the Year, the $109.5 million Cherokee K-12 school complex, which is currently pending LEED® Silver certification, is the largest LEED® registered school east of the Mississippi River, and the largest LEED® registered project of any type in the Carolinas. Built for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, this unique project was completed by our Greenville office in May 2009.
