The $265 million Seminole
Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, was
built on 100 acres of the Seminole Reservation in less
than two years and opened on May 11, 2004.
Built in a joint venture with Perini Building Company,
the complex features 500 luxury guestrooms designed to
meet four-star, four-diamond standards in a 12-story Mediterranean-style
hotel tower that encircles the four-acre pool complex.
Typical guestrooms have natural daylight to the bathrooms,
separate enclosures for tub and shower, and fully stocked
mini-bars. The project also includes a 130,000 sf casino,
with 40 poker tables and more than 2,000 electronic gaming
machines,.as well as retail shops, nightclubs and restaurants,
including the namesake 9,600 sf Hard Rock Café.
The resort also features a full-service spa; a four-acre,
a lagoon-style pool with a water slide; and over 100,000
sf of meeting and exhibit space.
Guests are greeted by the hotels tropical landscaping
and 50 tall signature Hard Rock guitar and fountains
at the entrance of the hotel and casino. As with most
Native American projects, great emphasis was placed on
design unity blending heritage and cultural themes/traditions
with the environment. Elements of the design not only
incorporate trendy themes of Rock n Roll music,
but also include native thatched housing and ornamental
structures.
A four-acre lagoon-style pool area snakes around the Pool
Bar nestled in a rock mountain, which provides a dramatic
backdrop to a 182-foot waterslide and elevated spa. The
pool features two beach entries, a lazy river, hot tubs,
a kiddie pool with play features, cabanas and a sandy
beach with a beach volleyball area. The 3,000 sf pool
bar serves as the entertainment hub of the pool area.
Landscaping creates a lush and tropical oasis, with dramatic
tree plantings and colorful masses of flowers and shrubs.
The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino includes a full-service
European-style spa adjacent to the pool area. The focal
point for dining and entertainment is a 9,600 sf Hard
Rock Café. The hotel also includes a restaurant
for all-day dining, as well as a coffee bar. The Casino
Center Bar is elevated and surrounds a metal "Tower
of Power" multimedia center. A Rock n Roll
theme is incorporated into the 250-seat food court.
Construction included more than 100,000 sf of meeting
and exhibit space, comprising a 16,000 sf grand ballroom
divisible into eight sections and several smaller rooms
for breakouts or board meetings, as well as multi-purpose
space suitable for exhibitions, concerts and sporting
events. Rock n Roll memorabilia is integrated into
perimeter walls of meeting room spaces. The project also
included construction of a 7,000 sf poolside function
area.
Parking is provided for 4,000 vehicles, including 2,200 surface parking spaces and a parking garage with capacity for 1,800 vehicles. Guests stroll between major activity centers along a Promenade, which connects the casino, guestroom elevators, Council Oaks restaurant, Hard Rock Café and Hard Rock Store, pool areas, food court, meeting space and parking garage.
Perhaps the most challenging assignment of the project
was a phased construction process to accommodate financing
issues. The financing of the project not only impacted
certain aspects of Phase 1 construction, but Phase 2 construction
as well. In this regard, the project was fast-tracked
not only to catch up with the original schedule, but also
to ensure that the scheduled completion date would be
met. Concurrent with the decision to proceed with Phase
2, the projects scope was increased, calling for
an additional 250 rooms in two towers. In order to meet
the original completion date, the joint venture team executed
the project on an accelerated schedule and "fast-tracked"
the project during the final eight months of the project.
Despite the addition of Phase 2, the team successfully
delivered the project on time and met the original completion
date.
Also, in order to accommodate future development, a decision was made to relocate 500 feet of an existing lake. Dredging and compacting of the lake was fast-tracked so the opening of the hotel/casino would not be delayed. Instead of trucking fill to the site, our project team used the resulting material from the repositioning of the lake. |
