The BE&K Building Group provided construction services for a comprehensive renovation program at this full-service Marriott hotel that caters to both business and leisure clientele.  Located near the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, the facility has seven floors, 199 guest rooms and four suites, as well as 11,566 sf of total meeting space with 13 meeting rooms and one concierge level.

The project called for major construction activities in high-profile areas within an operating hotel, thus requiring a phased construction approach. The hotel's main entry and lobby, restaurant, bar, main meeting rooms and an outdoor courtyard were creatively converted to reflect a “like new” facility.  On the top level of the hotel, our firm enhanced the hotel's executive accommodations by converting “standard” outdated guest rooms into several junior executive suites, a presidential suite and a concierge lounge.

The scope of work included enclosing the existing exterior courtyard, complete with skylights, in preparation for relocation of the hotel's existing restaurant.  Designated the Palmetto Court, the area's well-designed, coffered ceiling with light troughs helps achieve an atmosphere reminiscent of an outdoor café.  Some of the finishes in the Palmetto Court include designer carpet from Great Britain, sandstone tile, special finish walls and eight hand carved 5' x 12' partition doors. These doors were built from old railroad timbers that came from a trestle that crossed the Great Salt Lake in Utah. New areas created by this phase of the renovation include an omelet station, private dining room, smoking lounge and small meeting room.

The main entry renovation phase included relocating the front desk, PBX and security. The new entry's design — with its curves and warm colors — creates an inviting atmosphere in contrast with the more formal, original layout.  Guests flow from the reception desk into the Palmetto Court where they experience a sense of openness in this pleasant and non-confining gathering spot.  New high-end casework and wood trim are prevalent throughout the new entry along with curved soffits with LED lighting.
