The BE&K Building Group has been awarded an expansion
and renovation program of the existing Pineville facility
which consists of 50,750 sf in new additions and 49,500
sf in renovations.
The three-story existing building has approximately 183,251
sf of occupied space. The addition will occur on the main
level along the east side of the building to increase
circulation as well as expand the Emergency Department
to provide 31 treatment and examination rooms.
An addition on the west side of the building will expand
the central sterile supply area located on the Ground
Floor and surgery areas on the First Floor. A new loading
dock will be provided as the existing dock will be displaced
by the expansion. The surgery department will be expanded
to provide four new operating rooms with a central clean
core. The clean core will be connected to central sterile
supply with separate elevators for clean and used carts.
The pre-operative suite and recovery areas will be expanded
to support increased surgical volume. Surgical waiting
spaces are provided in the public spine. At the south
end of the First Floor, a 10-bed ICU will be constructed,
doubling the number of ICU beds in the hospital and providing
immediate adjacency to the surgical core.
Two LDRP rooms and two observation rooms will be relocated
in the maternity center to accommodate the addition
on the west side of the building for surgery. A new
Cesarean Section suite with two delivery rooms will
be located between the maternity center and surgery
areas to facilitate ease of access and support. The
existing 10-bassinet nursery will be expanded to 19.
The existing endo/outpatient procedure suite will be expanded
to provide two additional procedure rooms and appropriate
support. Waiting areas will be located adjacent to the
public spine. Radiology will be renovated to consolidate
services and add needed support areas. Waiting areas for
the radiology department will be a part of the outpatient
waiting area with a sub-waiting area in the department.
Additionally, the BE&K Building Group has been awarded
a preconstruction and construction services assignment
for a new four-story medical office building and associated
862-car parking facility. The medical office building
will house physician tenants on all four floors. A pedestrian
walkway will connect the office building to the adjacent
parking facility.
Objectives of the project include increased patient/visitor
satisfaction resulting from improved accessibility, visibility
and way-finding, and an aesthetically pleasing building
that will appeal to current and future physician tenants.
In addition, our firm was awarded a contract for campus
site improvements on the same site. Our firm is providing
preconstruction and construction services for extensive
improvements on 26 acres of the 38.4-acre site. A loop
road has been developed around the campus to provide
access to the hospital, as well as the new and existing
medical office buildings, surface parking and the new
parking facility. Site utilities have been relocated
to accommodate the new buildings and the reconfigured
parking. The existing site did not have any storm water
detention, which is now required by the Town of Pineville;
therefore, storm water has been redirected to a new
detention pond to correct this deficiency.
