Our firm constructed this state-of-the-art aquatic and fitness center for the City of North Myrtle Beach. Conveniently located behind City Hall, the facility is designed for families, singles, couples, seniors and those with disabilities. Class offerings and individualized services include youth and adult swim lessons, aerobics classes, arthritis exercise classes, cardiac rehab follow-up, personal training and wellness seminars.
The aquatic component of the facility includes two indoor pools — an eight-lane lap pool and a three-lane warm-water therapy pool with easy accessibility. Disability provisions include a wheelchair lift. The aquatic area also has a whirlpool spa and a dry sauna. The fitness area encompasses approximately 12,000 sf of workout area that includes free-weight space as well as areas housing weight machines and cardiovascular equipment. A gymnasium — with running track — houses two multiuse basketball/volleyball courts, two racquet ball courts and two aerobic rooms. The remaining space is dedicated to men's, women's and family locker rooms, and an office area for facility operations and support staff. A child watch area is provided.
The overall structure was designed with load bearing masonry walls and a structural steel roof system. The Natatorium portion is a load bearing precast concrete structure with a precast concrete, double-tee roof. The building's foundation consists of concrete grade beams and pile caps bearing on a timber-pile foundation. The facility has a built-up asphalt roof with a vaulted, standing-seam metal roof at the main entrance.
The building's exterior is designed with a mixture of custom split-face concrete masonry block and brick-veneer. The windows and doors are an aluminum curtain-wall system. Interior finishes include ceramic tile, wood flooring, sports flooring, paint and acoustical ceilings. |
