The BE&K Building Group constructed this new two-story high school which is part of an aggressive school construction program for Greenville County Schools that was implemented over a 4.5-year period. The $933.1 million program was initiated to provide "equal" school facilities for all students and to accommodate a growing student population.
The new school is located on a 44-acre site adjacent to the existing high school's property. It is designed to accommodate 1,400 students. Careful planning and scheduling ensured that school activities continued during construction without disruption. The scope of work included demolition of the existing school.
The food service area includes a walk-in freezer, hot and cold food units, warming cabinets, ice machines, steamers, ovens, dishwasher, and other accessories as required for complete storage, preparation and serving.
The school is constructed on a slab-on-grade foundation, with precast concrete walls, brick and masonry walls, and a built-up roof. Sitework included mass grading of practice fields as well as storm drainage, landscaping and walks, and student/staff parking.
Concurrent with this project, the BE&K Building Group constructed Greenville's Southside High Academy and Thomas E. Kerns Elementary School. As these three projects were getting started, our firm completed the new Cherrydale Elementary School. |
