Greenville Employees Surpass United Way Campaign Goal

February 5, 2008 - The Greenville office kicked off its 2007 United Way campaign with an aggressive goal of raising $15,500 to help the United Way of Greenville County fund many organizations that serve a wide variety of local community needs. A committee of eight BE&K Building Group employees embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, using the only tools available — teamwork and creative thinking. The bottom-line result: Greenville office employees donated a record-breaking $20,283 — a 31% increase over the initial goal!

To generate interest and pledges among office and jobsite employees, the committee planned, organized and executed a number of special events over several weeks, beginning with a kickoff breakfast, followed by a change (i.e., money) war, bake sale, and raffle ticket drawings and silent auction.

Committee members proudly represented the Greenville office at a United Way appreciation luncheon at which the BE&K Building Group received three awards.

Committee co-chairpersons, Carol Neely and Mitzi Scarborough, spoke on behalf of the committee. "It was a great honor for all of us to represent the company in receiving such great awards. It was gratifying to hear the testimony of a woman who has benefited from the local United Way organization. Our office's overwhelming participation and sizable donation to the United Way cause helped us realize that our group of employees can make a difference by helping individuals, families and neighborhoods in need. It is our intention to continue to do our part in building up lives and communities throughout the year."

The Greenville office of the BE&K Building Group was the proud recipient of these awards from the United Way of Greenville County:

• The Chairman's Award, presented to a company or organization with two or more employees and a campaign of $500 or more. Companies qualify when any four of these award criteria are met: 10% increase in employee giving; $100 or more employee per capita; 50% or more employee participation; one or more Palmetto Society members; 50% of contributors are Fair Share contributors.

• The Campaign Award of Excellence, given when the employees of a company or organization met any two of the above-mentioned criteria for Chairman's Award.

• The Campaign Award of Advancement, given to a company or organization when the employee campaign increased by 25% or more over last year's giving, or the employee participation increased by 25% or more over last year.
